Black and Decker is known for making power tools, small appliances, and all sorts of household electrical items. B&D is known for the DustBuster line, which introduced the first cordless handheld vacuum cleaner in 1979. The DustBuster name is so well known that people often refer to any brand of handheld vacuum as a “DustBuster” much as adhesive bandages are often called “Band-Aids.”
Through the years, DustBusters have improved greatly, mostly due to better battery technology. While the least expensive DustBusters still use NiCad batteries, the “Platinum” line and certain other hand vacuums use Lithium Ion batteries to make them some of the most powerful and long-running hand vacs.
